“COME GET SOME” the Collaboration Single is Out!

Posted on 2023-05-26 Written by D. Lee Jackson Leave a Comment

Come Get Some Cover ArtFINALLY! After all the wait, after all the hype, after all the cryptic lyrics posts, FINALLY! The collaboration single between San Antonio Nü-Metal band Agony and myself is out! COME GET SOME is finally available on major streaming outlets. Here are some links:

  • Spotify
  • Apple Music & iTunes
  • SoundCloud
  • YouTube

And finally, Come Get Some is available on Bandcamp!

This collaboration has been in the works (and subsequently, under wraps) for a long time now. I’ve been cryptically posting the lyrics to the song here on my web pages.  For your benefit, here are the complete lyrics once and for all:

Come Get Some (Lyrics by Richard Cooremans)

Come get some
Come get some
Come get some
COME GET SOME
YEAH!
Groovy…

You come into my town
And now it’s going down
You get up in my way
And now you gotta pay
You had to cross the line
You’re running out of time
The line of sight is clear
I’ll make you disappear
(repeat)

The song came about after I saw Agony band member Alan Wehrman (their bassist) mention on Doomworld that he was in a heavy metal band of sorts. I looked them up, checked out their songs, and contacted Alan with a friendly challenge: would he and Agony like to take on my song from E1L1 of Duke Nukem 3D, “Stalker,” and rework it in their own Nü-Metal style? He checked with his band, and the answer was a resounding yes.

A few weeks later, they sent me the first recording of their interpretation. I drew some inspiration from it and “spliced” in a synth solo. I sent this back to them, and they loved it. It was in the song officially. I even went down and had a rehearsal with them to see how it would fit. Later on, they sent me the stems for mixing and mastering. I added the synth solo plus a couple of other goodies (bells, horror synth), and that was that – the song was done.

Agony and I surely hope you’ll enjoy this single. Please let us know what you think of it in the comments. Thank you for your patience!

New Song – “Pavane” – On Bandcamp

Posted on 2023-04-09 Written by D. Lee Jackson Leave a Comment

Lee Jackson - "Pavane" CoverFor the first time in nearly a year, I’ve got a brand new song finished and up on Bandcamp! The song, “Pavane,” is a slow, melancholy, electronic dance, although many have described it more as “spooky” than anything else. In any case, it’s been getting really good reviews, so I hope you’ll take the time to grab a copy for yourself at this Bandcamp link.

The version that’s on Bandcamp is actually the second revision of the song. I posted the first version up on SoundCloud as a test to get feedback. Like I said, I hadn’t written a new song in almost a year, mainly due to the number of illnesses and hospitalizations I’ve had to deal with, and I wanted to make sure my composition chops were in shape. Sure enough, I’d made a few errors that required a new mix and a remaster, which I got done along with the cover art just in time for April’s Bandcamp Friday post by Cherry Audio (they’d promised to include me in their social post and their Feature post for the week). The reason they included me was that I composed the song using nothing but Cherry Audio’s Mercury-6 synth – ten instances of it, mind you, but still. 🙂

(If you haven’t figured it out by now, I like Cherry Audio synths. And you should too.)

In any case, “Pavane” is still up for sale on Bandcamp, and I encourage you to buy a copy. Proceeds will go toward getting more music written. 🙂

“Geisterwolken” the Single is Out!

Posted on 2022-05-06 Written by D. Lee Jackson Leave a Comment

Geisterwolken Cover ArtGeisterwolken, my new Hard Rock / Heavy Metal single, has dropped! It was released today, May 6th, 2022, on Bandcamp, Amazon, Spotify, and all major streaming platforms around the world, thanks to CD Baby‘s distribution service. You can reach it by way of my HearNow link service at https://leejackson.hearnow.com – bookmark that link to have all the major links on one page.

Geisterwolken (“Ghost Clouds”) is my biggest experiment at Hard Rock / Heavy Metal to date. It was inspired by a cloud formation I saw while riding home one day in 2021. You could practically see the ghosts streaming amongst the thunderstorm clouds in the distance. The genesis of this music immediately jumped into my head and stayed there until I got home, where I could get it into the computer.

Special thanks go out to Kittyhawk for the cover art, and to George “The Fat Man” Sanger for his help in fine-tuning the track.

Commissions, Hospitalizations, and a New Single Upcoming

Posted on 2022-04-23 Written by D. Lee Jackson Leave a Comment

Geisterwolken Head SoloThis has been a month of mixed news so far. As the post title would indicate, I’ve completed a couple of commissions, been in the hospital a couple of times, and I’ve got a new single due to be released soon. First things first, though, we’ll cover the completed commissions.

To be precise, I’ve completed two commissions since my last blog update. The first was for Mr. Corey Burton of Australia, who commissioned a piece that I’ve named DeadBeard Fantasia. The other was commissioned by Mr. Dan Douglas in the U.K., who is working on the “Duke Smoochem” mod project. His work is titled Double Decker Chase, and can be heard right now on Mr. Douglas’s YouTube work-in-progress post. Both pieces will eventually appear on my Commissions page in full, hopefully sometime in May. I want to heartily thank Mr. Burton and Mr. Douglas both for commissioning me to write their songs!

Onto the health matters. I’ve spent more than my fair share of time in the hospital this month. On April 15th, I was admitted to a local hospital for extreme swelling in my legs, as well as for severe pain in my right arm related to my neck surgery (radiculopathy). I was given intravenous diuretics, and over the course of the next few days wound up losing 17 pounds of water weight from my legs. That’s over two gallons of water! I was also given strong painkillers for my arm, which is still bugging me after my release from the hospital.

A few days later, I underwent outpatient surgery to remove a screw from a toe on my left foot. It had been implanted to correct a “hammertoe” condition in my big toe last year, and was in the process of trying to work its way out through the tip of my toe. The doctor removed it without problems, but my arm began acting up on me again in the recovery room. Time for more painkillers. Sigh. I’m told that physical therapy will help my arm, so I’m going to start it as soon as I can.

My final note concerns a new single I’ve got coming out on Friday, May 6th. It’s called Geisterwolken, which translates to “Ghost Clouds,” and it’ll be released on Bandcamp, Amazon, Spotify, and all other major streaming platforms. I’ll announce it here when it’s out. In the meantime, allow me to leave you with a preview of the cover art for the song. I hope you will enjoy it!
