Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 was a red-letter day around here. Why? Because THREE of my original compositions made the 2026-2027 Texas University Interscholastic League Prescribed Music List!
What this means is that if you’re reading this and you’re in a high school band in Texas, you might be able to play one of my works for Solo and Ensemble contest!
Here are the pieces, with a link to where you can get them and a little info about each.
Bohemian Galop – on the Grade 1 Miscellaneous Horn Ensemble list. This work for six Horns in F was written for the 2024 Southeast Horn Workshop composition contest. It’s a very jaunty piece (in fact, its working title was “A Jaunty Air” before calmer heads prevailed) that was my first ever published work. It has since had some good reviews, with Eastman School of Music Horn Professor Peter Kurau calling it an “important addition to the repertoire” (Thank You, Professor Kurau!).
Chorale and Fugue in F Major – on the Grade 1 Double Reed Ensemble list. This work, for two oboes, an English horn, and two bassoons, includes the first true fugue I ever composed. It’s a fun little number that should be enjoyable to rehearse.
Fanfare and Processions – on the Grade 1 Brass Quintet list. This composition was the biggest surprise of the bunch. I originally wrote this over the course of just two weeks’ time for another competition. It was originally a brass sextet, but I was convinced to arrange it for brass quintet by Mr. Bryan Doughty, the man in charge of Cimarron Music Press. Boy, am I ever glad I followed his advice! 🙂
