The visit to my primary care physician went well today, despite all of my coughing. There’s still a ton of pollen in the air and caked onto my truck. That made my cough worse as I drove to the doctor’s office.
Anyway, to make a long story short, I got a chest X-ray and had a pulmonary volume test run. No problems found in either one that would explain the wheezing in my chest or the incessant coughing. The doctor finally diagnosed me with what he called “Reactive Lungs,” probably due to exposure to all of the pollen. Reactive Lungs would seem to be a possible precursor to asthma if it goes on for 6 months or longer, based on what I’ve read online.
I’m on Xyzal and hydroxyzine (my two everyday antihistamines), over-the-counter Zantac (an H2 histamine blocker, believe it or not), and a prescription nose spray called Azelastine. I’m also supposed to keep using my Ventolin inhaler to relieve airway constriction in my chest.
That’s all for now. Next up is the trip to the surgical center on Thursday to get eight nerve blocker shots in my back. Wish me luck.
