Writing Progress, Music, and a Heartless Security Guard?

Posted on 2016-01-04 Written by D. Lee Jackson

Quickly tackling the last item first: my wife’s troubles in capturing lost cats at an apartment complex destroyed by the Garland EF-4 tornado continue. She’s down to one cat (as far as I know), and she had an agreement with one of the chief security guards standing watch over the rubble that would allow her and the cat’s owner into the fenced-off damage zone to capture the cat. She was hoping to finish up her tasks today and finally get some well-deserved rest.

So much for that idea.

She and the owner showed up at the site, as planned, only to meet a new “boss” who they’d never seen before. He flatly denied them access. Period. Folks, it’s supposed to get below freezing tonight, and she’s got cat traps that she can’t access until tomorrow. Lord only knows what’ll happen if a cat does get caught out in one of the open traps. They argued at length with the guard, but to no avail. Sounds to me like someone is taking their job a bit too seriously, given her standing in the rescue effort.

Remember, you can donate to the cause by going to the Garland Pawsibilities donation page. Please give what you can.

Moving on.

I’m still typing away at the second book in my sci-fi series. I now have six full chapters up on Scribophile and am working on the seventh chapter. So far, we’ve had two torture victims (okay, only one of them is really being tortured), four deaths, several casualties, and one person in Intensive Care. Sounds like a party to me.

On the planning front, I’m trying to get my music computer back together. Its C: drive, an original Samsung 840 SSD, has some spots that are degraded so badly that I can’t boot the system anymore. I can’t even get any of my rescue utilities to pull off all of its data. All of my music software licenses were on that thing (e.g., Waves, Native Instruments, some UVI stuff, etc.), and for some reason I can’t find my Windows 7 64-bit Professional install disc so that I can start over with a new SSD drive. That search continues. Wish me luck.
